Mesmerizing vista: Kumara Parvatha, as seen from Sesha Parvatha. Nature's grandeur unveiled at its finest. 🏞️✨ #KumaraParvatha #SeshaParvatha #NatureBeauty #BreathtakingViews"

Welcome, fellow adventurers and nature enthusiasts, I am thrilled to share with you my unforgettable journey to Kumaraparvatha, a captivating peak nestled in the enchanting Western Ghats of Karnataka, India. Brace yourself for a thrilling tale of breathtaking vistas, challenging trails, and a profound connection with nature.

Kumaraparvatha, also known as Pushpagiri, stands tall at an elevation of approximately 1,712 meters (5,617 feet). This mighty mountain, shrouded in myth and legend, has lured hikers from across the globe, seeking to conquer its peaks and witness its awe-inspiring beauty firsthand.

Hike Difficulty:

Embarking on a hike to Kumaraparvatha is no small feat. It is considered one of the most challenging treks in the region, demanding physical endurance, mental resilience, and a true sense of adventure. The trail, spanning around 13 kilometers (8 miles) each way, presents a formidable test of stamina and determination.

The hike can be classified as moderate to difficult, with steep ascents and descents along the way. It is recommended for experienced hikers or those who are physically fit and have prior trekking experience. However, don't let the difficulty deter you; the reward awaiting you at the summit is truly extraordinary.

Details:

Before we delve deeper into my personal experience, let's go over some essential details that will help you plan your own expedition to Kumaraparvatha:

  1. Trek Duration: The hike to Kumaraparvatha typically takes around 2 to 3 days to complete, depending on your pace and preference. It's advisable to plan for an overnight stay to fully immerse yourself in the magic of this wilderness.

  2. Trailhead: The journey commences from a small village called Kukke Subramanya, situated in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. From here, you'll embark on an exhilarating adventure, navigating through lush green forests and meandering streams.

  3. Permits and Guides: To ensure a safe and organized trekking experience, it is mandatory to obtain a permit from the Forest Department. Additionally, hiring a local guide is highly recommended, as they possess invaluable knowledge of the terrain and can enrich your journey with intriguing stories and insights.

  4. Camping and Accommodation: Kumaraparvatha offers several camping spots along the trail, allowing you to immerse yourself in the serene wilderness. However, if you prefer more comfort, there are guesthouses available at the base village (Kukke Subramanya) where you can rest and rejuvenate before and after your trek.

The Setting:

Every year, my friends and I celebrated New Year's Eve together, but this year was going to be different. Our dear friend Bobby had returned from the UK to spend the New Year in Bangalore, India, and coincidentally, my classmate buddy Naveen was returning from Muscat. Little did we know that this would spark the beginning of an incredible adventure.

The Plan:

Naveen, being the adventure enthusiast that he is, proposed a plan to trek to Kumaraparvatha on New Year's Eve. The idea excited us all, and we eagerly agreed to embark on this thrilling expedition. Joining us was our classmate Nethra, who had longed for an adventure like hiking, making the journey even more special.

Preparations:

With our group of four set, Naveen took charge of organizing the trek. He booked the hiking experience through Backpackers United, a renowned adventure travel company.

The package included travel via bus to Kukke Subramanya from Bangalore, the base village of Kumaraparvatha. It also provided us with a place to freshen up upon our arrival, covering all forest entry fees, and even included a tent for our overnight stay atop Kumaraparvatha. It sounded like a perfect plan, promising us an unforgettable start to the New Year.

Anticipation:

As the days passed, our excitement grew. We eagerly awaited the arrival of New Year's Eve, envisioning the majestic beauty of Kumaraparvatha that awaited us. It had been a while since Nethra had ventured into the realm of adventure, and Bobby and Naveen's return made this journey even more special.

The Adventure Begins:

Finally, the long-awaited day had arrived. It was the 30th of December, and with excitement and anticipation, Bobby, Naveen, Nethra, and I gathered at Yeswanthpur Metro Station, Bangalore. Each of us had traveled from different locations within Bangalore, but we all converged at this designated meeting point. Yeswanthpur Metro Station served as the starting point for our adventurous journey to Kumaraparvatha.

The Bus Journey:

Our transportation had been organized by Backpackers United, and a bus was scheduled to pick us up. However, as with any adventure, things didn't go entirely as planned. The bus arrived over an hour late due to multiple pick-ups along the way. Despite the delay, our spirits remained high, and we boarded the bus around 10 pm.

The bumpy journey through the night proved to be quite different from what we had imagined. Initially, I had hoped to catch up on some much-needed sleep and wake up refreshed as we reached our destination in the morning. However, the reality was far from my expectations. The bus ride was rough, and the constant bumps and twists made it challenging to find comfort. Sleep eluded us throughout the entire journey, leaving us somewhat weary and fatigued.

A Glimmer of Rest:

As the night wore on, we found ourselves unable to sleep. However, despite the restlessness, fatigue gradually caught up with me. Approximately two hours before reaching Kukke Subramanya, the base village of Kumaraparvatha, I managed to drift into a light slumber. It was a brief respite, but it gave me a glimmer of rest before the adventure truly began.

Upon waking, a mix of excitement and grogginess filled the air. We had arrived at our destination, ready to take on the challenges that awaited us. Stepping off the bus, we stretched our limbs and took in the crisp morning air, energizing ourselves for the trek that lay ahead.

The Backpackers United team had made arrangements for us to freshen up at a hotel in the area. However, as luck would have it, a long queue had formed at the hotel. Impatience crept in, and we decided to explore other options rather than waiting for our turn.

Quick Thinking and Individual Spaces:

In our eagerness to get ourselves ready for the hike, we made a quick decision. We found a nearby hotel and booked separate rooms for ourselves. Nethra had her own room, and we, the boys, had another room. This allowed us to have dedicated space and saved us from the waiting time at the crowded hotel.

Refreshing Ourselves:

With the rooms secured, we took turns getting ourselves ready for the hike. The short duration of two hours gave us just enough time to freshen up, change into our hiking gear, and gather our necessary equipment. It was a much-needed respite that allowed us to shake off the weariness from the bus journey and prepare ourselves mentally and physically for the adventure that lay ahead.

Excitement and Final Preparations:

As we gathered outside our respective rooms, a renewed sense of energy and excitement enveloped us. We could feel the anticipation building, knowing that Kumaraparvatha awaited us. We made sure to double-check our backpacks, ensuring we had enough water, snacks, and other essentials for the trek. The final adjustments to our gear and a brief exchange of words to boost each other's spirits set the stage for our adventure.

Fueling Up and Gathering:

With a briefing from the Backpackers United team, we had a clear understanding of our starting time for the hike. They advised us to have a quick breakfast and regroup in front of the Kukke Subramanya Entrance. As we received this information, our stomachs growled in agreement, signaling that it was indeed time to refuel our bodies.

Bobby's Insider Knowledge:

Fortunately, Bobby had visited the Kukke Subramanya temple with his parents in the past, and he knew of a place that served a delicious breakfast. With his guidance, we made our way to the eatery he recommended. Bobby's previous experience proved to be invaluable, as it helped us find a reliable spot to satisfy our hunger and recharge our energy.

Savoring Breakfast:

As we entered the breakfast joint, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the tantalizing scent of traditional South Indian breakfast dishes filled the air. The menu offered a variety of options, including piping hot idlis, crispy dosas, and flavorful vadas. We indulged in a hearty breakfast, relishing each bite, knowing that we needed the sustenance to fuel us through the challenging trails.

Regrouping for the Adventure:

Having satisfied our appetites, we regrouped at the designated location informed by the Backpackers United team. It was time to meet up with fellow hikers, gather our belongings, and mentally prepare ourselves for the ascent. Excitement and determination radiated from each one of us.

Capturing Memories and Commencing the Hike:

Before setting off on our hike, we wanted to capture the excitement and anticipation of the moment. We took a few group photos, ensuring that the memories of this adventure would be preserved forever. With smiles on our faces and a sense of camaraderie, we embarked on the trail, ready to conquer Kumaraparvatha.

Arriving at the Forest Checking Post:

As we made progress along the trail, we soon arrived at the Forest Checking Post. It was time for the second round of briefing, ensuring that we were well-informed about the rules and regulations of the forest and the importance of maintaining its pristine condition.

Preparation and Environmental Consciousness:

The Backpackers United team emphasized the significance of responsible hiking and environmental conservation. We were guided through warm-up exercises to prepare our bodies for the physical challenges that lay ahead. The exercises helped to loosen our muscles and increase our flexibility, ensuring we were ready to tackle the demanding terrain.

Plastic Content Check:

Another crucial aspect at the Forest Checking Post was the meticulous inspection of our bags. The forest officials individually checked each bag, taking note of any plastic items we carried. These items were recorded against our names, and it was explained that we would need to present the same number of plastic items upon our return. This measure was implemented to prevent littering and ensure the forest remained pristine.

Environmental Deposit:

To reinforce the importance of responsible waste management, a deposit of around 100 rupees was collected from each of us. If the number of plastic items we returned did not match the initial count, fines would be imposed. This practice impressed us, as it not only ensured the cleanliness of the forest but also encouraged us to be conscious of our ecological impact.

Appreciating Environmental Stewardship:

Witnessing the commitment of the forest officials to maintain the beauty and integrity of the forest left a lasting impression on us. The importance placed on environmental stewardship and sustainable practices showcased their dedication to preserving the natural wonders we were about to explore.

Ascending through Challenges:

As our hike commenced at around 11:30 am, we initially felt the trail was relatively manageable. Fueled by our energy and excitement, all four of us set off at a brisk pace. However, as we ventured deeper into the trail, we encountered increasingly challenging terrain. The path became steeper and more demanding, testing our endurance and determination.

Supporting Each Other:

Despite the growing difficulty, we maintained our spirits by engaging in conversations and sharing helpful hiking tips along the way. We also took advantage of the picturesque surroundings, capturing moments through photographs that would serve as lasting memories of our journey. Bobby and Naveen, with their natural agility, forged ahead, while Nethra and I trailed slightly behind. Determined to keep up, we pushed ourselves, finding solace in the breathtaking scenery that surrounded us.

A Refreshing Stop:

Our next planned stop was at a serene stream that meandered through the forest. We longed for a break to recharge and satiate our hunger. Backpackers United had provided us with light snacks, such as fruits and readymade lunch, which proved to be a welcome treat during our adventure.

Rejuvenation by the Stream:

With great effort, we reached the stream where the water flowed gracefully amidst the lush greenery. The view alone was rejuvenating, as if nature itself was offering its refreshing embrace. We found a natural rock formation in the midst of the stream, serving as the perfect spot to sit and enjoy our quick lunch.

Refueling and Freshening Up:

Sitting by the gentle flowing water, we indulged in the provided snacks, relishing every bite. The sound of the stream provided a calming backdrop as we refueled our bodies, replenishing our energy for the remainder of the hike. Additionally, the crystal-clear water allowed us to freshen up, cooling our faces and hands, and revitalizing our spirits.

With renewed energy and a sense of fulfillment, we continued our journey towards Batra Mane, eager to conquer its majestic heights.

Batra mane:

Batra Mane is a rest house located on the way to Kumaraparvatha. It is a popular stopover for hikers and trekkers who want to rest and recharge themselves before continuing on their journey.

On average, it takes around 4 to 6 hours to reach Batra Mane from the starting point, considering breaks and rests along the way.

The journey to Batra Mane is not just about covering the distance but also about enjoying the beauty of the surroundings. It's recommended to maintain a steady pace, stay hydrated, and take breaks when needed to ensure an enjoyable and safe trekking experience.

Facing Unexpected Challenges:

As our hike progressed, we were informed by the Backpackers United team that the section leading up to the stream would be the most challenging. They assured us that once we crossed the stream, the trek would become easier. Encouraged by this information, we tackled the difficult terrain with determination. However, to our surprise, the path became increasingly arduous after the stream crossing.

A Rockier Path:

The trail grew rockier, posing new challenges that tested our endurance and agility. Bobby and I decided to increase our pace, eager to reach Batra Mane as early as possible. We hoped to witness the stunning sunset and take advantage of the reputed coffee or tea available at the resting point. Additionally, we wanted to secure our tents in advance, ensuring that we would have a comfortable spot to rest and recover for the night.

Diverging Paces:

As we picked up our speed, we noticed Nethra and Naveen lagging behind. The difficulty of the trail affected their pace, slowing them down. We communicated our plan to reach Batra Mane quickly, understanding that we would reunite at the resting point. Despite the separation, we were all determined to conquer the challenges and achieve our shared goal.

Pushing Our Limits:

The increasing difficulty of the hike tested our physical and mental strength. We focused on each step, carefully navigating the rocky path. It required concentration, balance, and occasional use of our hands for support. Despite the fatigue setting in, the breathtaking beauty of the surroundings provided moments of respite and motivation.

Anticipation of Batra Mane:

With each passing step, our anticipation for Batra Mane grew stronger. We longed for the warmth of a hot beverage, the comfort of a well-deserved rest, and the satisfaction of witnessing the sunset from the vantage point. We pushed ourselves, motivated by the promise of reaching our destination.

Reserving our Tents:

As we finally arrived at Batra Mane, the exhilaration of our achievement mixed with the relief of a temporary reprieve from the challenging hike. Our eyes scanned the area, looking for the familiar tents provided by Backpackers United. Spotting them, we hurriedly secured our spots, eager to claim our reserved space ahead of other hikers.

Welcoming Naveen and Nethra:

As the sun began its descent, painting the sky with vibrant hues, Naveen and Nethra finally arrived at Batra Mane. Relieved to see them, Bobby and I eagerly shared our reservation confirmation for the tents we had secured. We wanted to ensure that they wouldn't miss the awe-inspiring sunset that awaited us. With smiles of relief and excitement, they acknowledged our gesture, grateful for our consideration.

Relaxing and Reflecting:

With everyone now gathered, we settled into our respective tents, allowing our weary bodies to rest. The excitement of the hike and the challenges we had overcome fueled our conversations as we eagerly shared our individual experiences. Sitting together in the tranquil surroundings of Forest Camp near Batra Mane, we exchanged stories, reliving the moments that had shaped our journey thus far.

The Chaotic New Year's Eve Dinner:

As the evening unfolded on New Year's Eve, the atmosphere at Batra Mane became charged with anticipation. We were informed that over 800 hikers, including ourselves, would be dining at Batra Mane that night. It was an enormous task for the team to cater to such a large crowd.

The Dinner Queue:

Around 7 pm, hungry and excited, we made our way from the forest camp area, where our tents were set up, to Batra Mane. However, what awaited us was nothing short of a shock. A massive crowd of hikers stood in a long queue, each holding an empty plate in hand. It seemed like a daunting task to find plates for us amidst the chaos.

Patience and Waiting:

Realizing the situation, we understood that we would have to wait until hikers with plates finished their meal before we could get our turn. The waiting game began, and time seemed to stretch endlessly. We navigated through the bustling crowd, patiently anticipating our moment to secure our plates and indulge in a well-deserved dinner.

Finally, Dinner is Served:

After what felt like an eternity, our patience and efforts paid off. We obtained our plates and were thrilled to finally be in possession of our well-earned meal. The aroma of the food wafted through the air, tantalizing our taste buds. The sight of the unlimited spread, including rice, sambar, pickle, rasam, and buttermilk, filled us with excitement and satisfaction.

A Worthwhile Reward:

With our plates filled, we settled down to savor the flavors of the mountains. The first bite confirmed that the wait and effort had been worthwhile. The food was delicious, prepared with care and expertise. Each mouthful offered a comforting blend of spices and textures, reminding us of the hard work and determination it took to reach this moment.

As we indulged in the sumptuous meal, we couldn't help but appreciate the dedication of the Batra Mane team in ensuring that all 800 hikers were fed. Despite the initial chaos and waiting, the dinner experience left us satiated, grateful, and ready to welcome the new year with renewed energy and camaraderie.

A Fresh Start to the New Year:

After indulging in the hearty dinner, our bodies were fueled, and our spirits were high. It was time to retire to our tents and prepare for the early morning trek. The Backpackers United team had briefed us about the schedule - we were to wake up at 2 am, marking the beginning of the new year, and commence our hike at 3 am. We had a precious hour to rest and freshen up at the forest camp.

A Peaceful Slumber:

As Nethra returned to her tent and quickly fell asleep, Bobby, Naveen, and I continued talking, not realizing how effortlessly our conversation transitioned into a peaceful slumber. The fatigue from the day's trek and the comforting ambiance of the forest lulled us into a deep sleep. The next thing we knew, the Backpackers United team was gently waking us up at 2 am, signaling the start of the new year.

Rising to the Occasion:

With sleep still lingering in our eyes, we swiftly roused ourselves from our slumber. We hurriedly made our way to the restroom facilities at the forest camp. Despite there being only five restrooms, they were well-maintained, ensuring our satisfaction.

Preparations in the Darkness:

Equipped with headlamps to illuminate our path in the dark, we returned to our tents to change into our hiking attire. We carefully selected the essential items we would need for the trek, leaving behind the bulk of our backpacks at the tent. Traveling light allowed us to move more freely and comfortably during the challenging hike that awaited us.

With anticipation and determination, we set off into the predawn darkness, our headlamps casting beams of light on the trail ahead. The new year had just begun, and we were embarking on a journey that would shape our experiences and create lasting memories.

Navigating the Darkness: A Nighttime Trek

As we embarked on the next leg of our journey from Batra Mane/Forest Camp to Kumara Parvatha, the darkness of the early morning surrounded us. With only the faint glow of fellow hikers' headlamps to guide us, we trudged forward, following the illuminated path that had been formed by those who had gone before us. It felt as though we were part of a synchronized formation, united in our quest to conquer the mountain.

A Surprise Checkpoint:

As we continued hiking in the darkness, our senses heightened by the serenity of the night, we noticed a sudden halt among the hikers ahead. Confusion settled in as we wondered why everyone had come to a standstill. Gradually, we realized that we had reached another checkpoint manned by forest officials.

Maintaining Environmental Integrity:

The forest officials were diligently conducting checks to ensure that no unauthorized substances were being carried into the protected area. This admirable effort was a testament to their commitment to preserving the natural beauty and integrity of the surroundings. Each hiker's bag was meticulously inspected, a process that demanded time, patience, and attention to detail.

An Impressive Display of Patience:

Witnessing the officials' unwavering commitment to upholding environmental standards left a profound impression on us. Despite the sheer number of hikers, they remained composed and thorough in their inspections. Their dedication was a reminder that the responsibility to preserve the pristine wilderness lies not only with the authorities but with each and every one of us.

Moving Forward:

With each bag checked and cleared, the line of hikers slowly resumed its progression along the trail. Our hearts were filled with gratitude for the officials who diligently worked to maintain the cleanliness and sanctity of the forest. This unexpected checkpoint served as a reminder that our actions as hikers and visitors carry a significant impact on the environment.

Chasing the Sunrise: A Race against Time

As the first rays of dawn began to pierce through the darkness, Bobby and I quickened our pace. The allure of witnessing the sunrise from atop Kumaraparvatha propelled us forward, igniting a surge of determination within us. We knew that reaching our destination before the sun climbed higher in the sky would grant us the privilege of experiencing the majestic sight in all its glory.

Ascending the Path:

The trail ahead inclined steadily, leading us through open meadows and grassy mountains. With every step, our anticipation grew, and the coolness of the night journey provided us with an advantage. We were driven by the desire to conquer the mountain and immerse ourselves in the breathtaking panorama that awaited us at the summit.

A Glimpse of the Past: Kallu Mantapa

After trekking for approximately 2 kilometers, we reached a place called Kallu Mantapa. Standing before us was an abandoned structure, seemingly carved out of stone. Hikers often took a momentary pause here, soaking in the surrounding beauty and gathering their strength before continuing the arduous journey. However, Bobby and I decided to forego the rest stop, determined to push forward and reach our next destination, Shesha Parvatha, in time for the sunrise.

The Quest for the Sunrise:

With a single-minded focus, we continued our ascent, the exhilaration of the imminent sunrise fueling our every step. The trail challenged us with its rugged terrain and steep inclines, but our determination remained unwavering. We were driven by a shared eagerness to witness the grandeur of nature's spectacle, where the sun would ascend above the horizon, casting its warm golden light upon the mountain landscape.

Embracing the Summit: A Journey to Shesha Parvatha

The climb to Shesha Parvatha demanded every ounce of stamina within me. The trail spiraled upward, pushing the limits of my endurance. But with each step, a new world unfolded before my eyes. Hidden landscapes emerged, revealing their true splendor, while towering mountains enveloped me in their majestic embrace. The panoramic views that surrounded me were a testament to the sheer grandeur of nature.

A Lone Expedition:

As I forged ahead, my pace quickened. The allure of reaching Shesha Parvatha and witnessing the sunrise from its vantage point propelled me forward. I left Bobby trailing behind, knowing that he would catch up eventually. The trail became steeper, challenging my physical strength and mental fortitude. But the anticipation of the breathtaking vista that awaited me spurred me on.

A Waiting Game:

Upon reaching Shesha Parvatha, I eagerly settled myself, my eyes fixed on the horizon. Time seemed to stand still as I waited for the sunrise. Yet, I couldn't help but glance back every now and then, searching for the familiar figures of my companions—Bobby, Naveen, and Nethra. It was important to me that they too experienced the magnificence of this moment.

An Unspoken Achievement:

As I lay on my back, gazing up at the sky, a sense of accomplishment washed over me. The fatigue in my muscles and the sweat on my brow were testament to the journey I had undertaken. It was a moment of quiet reflection, basking in the realization that I had reached this point through sheer determination and perseverance. I had conquered the challenges and now rested in the embrace of nature's beauty.

The wait for the sunrise and the arrival of my companions stretched on, but I remained at peace. I had already achieved something extraordinary—the fulfillment of pushing my limits and discovering the serenity that comes from embracing the wonders of nature.

A Reunion at Sunrise: Embracing the Beauty

As the sun began its ascent, casting a warm glow over the rugged landscape, a figure appeared before me. It was Bobby, miraculously joining me just in time to witness the magical moment. A surge of joy washed over me, and we shared a knowing smile. Together, we watched as the sun painted the sky with hues of gold and orange, illuminating the world around us.

Despite the beauty that unfolded before our eyes, our hearts yearned for the presence of our fellow adventurers, Nethra and Naveen. We waited patiently, hoping to catch a glimpse of them on the horizon. However, as time ticked by, it became evident that they had not yet arrived. With a mix of concern and anticipation, we made the difficult decision to continue our journey towards our final destination—Kumara Parvatha.

With renewed determination, we set off, our footsteps guided by the trail that snaked its way through the captivating landscape. Each stride brought us closer to the summit, and the anticipation within us grew stronger with every passing moment. The path ahead was both challenging and awe-inspiring, with nature's magnificence revealing itself at every turn.

The Final Triumph: Reaching the Summit of Kumara Parvatha

After bidding farewell to the mesmerizing vistas of Shesha Parvatha, Bobby and I continued our journey towards the ultimate destination—the summit of Kumara Parvatha. With less than 2 kilometers left to conquer, our spirits soared with anticipation as we descended through a well-defined path, leading us into a dense forest cover.

The forest enveloped us in its serene embrace, shielding us from the scorching sun's rays and creating a cool, tranquil atmosphere. The rustling of leaves and the occasional chirping of birds provided a soothing soundtrack to our ascent. With each step, we felt a renewed connection to the natural world around us, humbled by its grandeur and beauty.

As we emerged from the forest, a breathtaking sight greeted us—an expansive rocky patch, inclined at an angle of approximately 45 degrees. Adrenaline coursed through our veins as we carefully maneuvered our way across the rocky terrain. Surprisingly, what initially appeared daunting proved to be a manageable challenge. Our determination and previous hiking experience empowered us to navigate the rocks with relative ease.

Upon conquering the rocky patch, we reentered another section of the forest, its canopy providing respite from the sun's relentless glare. The path through this forested area was relatively straightforward, guiding us effortlessly towards our goal. Soon, the landscape transformed once again, unveiling a dry and rocky mountain expanse. This leg of the journey felt like a victory lap—compared to the arduous climbs we had endured earlier, these sections presented minimal obstacles.

Within minutes of traversing the final stretches, we reached the pinnacle of Kumara Parvatha—the summit that had beckoned to us from afar. As we stood there, surrounded by awe-inspiring mountain ranges of Kodagu, a profound sense of accomplishment washed over us. The panoramic view stretched out before our eyes, offering a breathtaking panorama of nature's magnificence. We couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude for this remarkable experience.

In the presence of such majesty, time seemed to stand still. We soaked in the beauty that unfolded before us, cherishing the moment and capturing it in photographs—a tangible reminder of our triumph and the memories we would forever hold dear. Below us, clouds swirled, adding an ethereal touch to the already picturesque landscape.

In the Face of Determination: Unyielding Spirit

As we began our descent from the glorious summit of Kumara Parvatha, a sense of fulfillment mingled with a tinge of concern. Naveen joined us, but Nethra was still missing. Soon, Naveen shared the news that Nethra had been unable to reach the summit and had encouraged him to continue the ascent without her. Naveen desired to savor the experience a little longer, while Nethra resolved to push herself further.

With mixed emotions, Bobby and I resumed our journey downwards. The trail led us back to Shesha Parvatha, where the morning light cast a new radiance upon the landscapes that had captivated us earlier. We couldn't resist capturing the beauty with our cameras, cherishing these additional memories of the remarkable terrain.

As we continued descending, our thoughts lingered on Nethra's determination. We wondered about her progress and whether she would catch up to us soon. Our concern grew, prompting us to keep a watchful eye on the trail behind us.

And then, through the twists and turns of the path, we spotted Nethra. She had not given up her pursuit of the summit. Though fatigued and facing her own set of challenges, her unwavering spirit propelled her forward. We urged her to join us and continue the descent together, emphasizing the importance of safety and the value of sticking together as a group.

But Nethra's resolve was unshakeable. She insisted on at least reaching Shesha Parvatha before turning back. Acknowledging her determination, we respected her decision. We bid her farewell, encouraging her to stay strong and promising to wait for Naveen at Shesha Parvatha.

As we resumed our descent, our hearts were filled with admiration for Nethra's unwavering spirit. Her tenacity was an inspiration—a testament to the strength that lies within us when we face challenges head-on. We couldn't help but feel a sense of pride for having such a courageous friend among us.

The Descent and heading for well-deserved Rest:

As Bobby and I continued our descent, we noticed that going down was more challenging than the ascent. The path seemed slippery, and we had to be cautious with each step. It made us appreciate the importance of having proper footwear for such treks. We couldn't help but wonder how we managed to climb this difficult trail earlier in the day. The contrast between our memories of the path and the reality of the descent was striking.

Our next planned stop was Batra Mane, where we intended to wait for Naveen and Nethra to join us. As we descended, our eagerness to reach Batra Mane grew stronger. We picked up the pace, hoping to get there soon. The passing time seemed to elongate, and impatience began to cloud our thoughts.

Then, in the distance, we heard voices and conversations. The sound indicated that we were approaching Batra Mane. Our excitement soared as we drew closer and caught sight of the familiar tents. We had made it back to our day's starting point, and a sense of accomplishment washed over us.

We quickly located our tents and started packing our backpacks. It was time to gather and account for all the plastic and non-disposable items we had brought with us. We sorted them into a separate bag, making it easier for the forest officials to conduct their checks.

As we waited for Naveen and Nethra, minutes turned into what felt like hours. We assumed they were facing some delays and would take longer to return. Leaving them a note, we informed them of our plan to continue our descent from Batra Mane and meet them at Kukke Subramanya.

Descending from Batra Mane to Kukke Subramanya:

It was time to begin our descent from Batra Mane back to Kukke Subramanya. Eager for some much-needed rest and comfort, we embarked on the challenging journey, reflecting on the memorable moments and anticipating the reunion with our fellow hikers, Naveen and Nethra.

The Difficult Descent:

As we started our descent, we quickly realized that it was more challenging than we had anticipated. The rocky path, which we had overlooked during our ascent, now posed a greater obstacle. Our shoes showed signs of wear and tear, a testament to the rugged terrain we had conquered. Nevertheless, we pressed on, imagining how our friends were faring on their own descent.

Longing for Civilization:

The descent seemed never-ending as we made our way back to the base at Kukke Subramanya. However, the distant sounds of roosters and hens reassured us that we were getting closer to civilization. The prospect of reaching Kukke and indulging in some well-deserved refreshments lifted our spirits.

Sense of Satisfaction:

Finally, we arrived at the Forest Checkpoint, filled with a sense of accomplishment. We proudly presented our counted plastics, which matched perfectly with what we had carried, and received our deposits back. It was a small victory that reaffirmed our commitment to preserving the environment.

Relishing Refreshments:

Eager to refuel our bodies, we headed to a nearby shop opposite the Forest Checkpoint for some much-needed refreshments. Savoring the taste of the snacks and drinks, we relished the feeling of replenishing our energy after a demanding trek. It was a moment to recharge and reflect on the challenges we had overcome.

Heading to Kukke Subramanya:

With renewed vigor, we made our way to Kukke Subramanya, where we knew a hotel awaited us. Finding the familiar establishment where we had freshened up on the first day, we decided to secure a room for a few hours. Our plan was to relax, take a refreshing bath, and eagerly await the arrival of Naveen, Nethra, and the rest of our fellow hikers.

A Memorable Conclusion: Reunion and Farewell after the Kumaraparvatha Trek

Reunion and Celebration:

We received a call from Naveen, informing us of their safe arrival at Kukke, the initial base. We shared the news of our hotel booking for a few hours, and soon, all four of us joyfully reunited. Congratulations and warm embraces were exchanged as we celebrated our collective success in conquering the challenging trek. The bond we forged during our adventure grew stronger, and we felt a sense of camaraderie that would last a lifetime.

Temple Visit and Dinner:

With ample time before our scheduled bus departure at 9:00 pm, we decided to seize the opportunity to visit the famous Kukke Subramanya temple. Immersed in spirituality, we sought the blessings of the deity, expressing our gratitude for the safe and memorable journey we had experienced. The temple visit marked a meaningful closure to our trek, symbolizing a good start to the new year.

As dusk approached, our appetites led us to the familiar eatery that Bobby had recommended for breakfast on our first day. Indulging in a delicious dinner, we savored the flavors and reminisced about the remarkable moments we had shared throughout the trek. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.

Journey Back Home:

The following morning, on January 2nd, we embarked on our return journey to Bangalore. Although our hearts felt heavy parting ways, a profound sense of accomplishment enveloped us. We reflected on the challenges we had overcome, the stunning landscapes we had witnessed, and the unwavering determination that propelled us forward. Each step we took brought us closer to a new year filled with renewed energy, resilience, and unforgettable memories.

Conclusion:

As our paths diverged and we bid farewell to our fellow trekkers, a bittersweet feeling lingered. We left Kumaraparvatha with a sense of achievement and fulfillment, knowing that we had embraced the spirit of adventure and pushed ourselves beyond our limits. The trek had not only tested our physical endurance but also strengthened the bonds of friendship and instilled in us a profound appreciation for the beauty of nature. We welcomed the new year with open hearts, cherishing the experiences and lessons learned from this remarkable journey.
